HAND-TINTED PHOTO
TOMMY KELLY AS TOM

All the images on this page were shot during the filming of Selznick International's 1938 Adventures of Tom Sawyer, and were released as part of the movie's publicity campaign. The last three in the sequence show off-screen moments.

Appearing in these photos are, in order of appearance: Tommy Kelly (Tom Sawyer), May Robson (Aunt Polly), David Holt (Sid Sawyer), Jackie Moran (Huckleberry Finn), Ann Gillis (Becky Thatcher), Olin Howland (Mr. Dobbins), Mickey Rentschler (Joe Harper), Walter Brennan (Muff Potter), Victor Jory (Injun Joe), and Philip Hurlic (Little Jim). Presumably Hurlic's character was identified in the credits as "Little Jim" to avoid confusion with the character Jim in Huck Finn. The shot of him, Kelly and Moran together, despite differences in color and clothes ("Huck" is out of costume), shows the three boys together in a way that MT's novel never does.
