Announcing the Tour

To publicize the "trouble" that was coming to various American and Canadian cities, Major Pond prepared a four-page (one folded sheet) brochure and sent copies ahead of MT, as we can tell from the Seattle date stamp on the front of the copy in the Barrett Collection. It gave a sample program that indicates MT was originally planning to use his "True Story" about slavery, although reviews from the tour suggest he decided against including it in most performances. The critics' comments it quotes are from the 1884-1885 tour with Cable. It also advertises Pudd'nhead Wilson, and recruits agents to sell it.
