DETAIL: REVIEW OF REVIEW ARTICLE

[The subtitle of this article explains the occasion for it. In October, 1900, MT came back to live in the United States after 10 years abroad. These photographs accompany a 5-page sketch of Clemens' life and MT's career. While the 5 pictures above simply record the passage of time and changing facial hair, the article's pictures of MT's two homes, in Hannibal and Hartford, imply a different progression: from humble beginnings to social status. But MT hadn't been able to afford living in the Hartford house for a decade, and would sell it soon after the article appeared, without ever moving back into it.]
